Robots replacing our workers – Where are we now?

Robots replacing our workers – Where are we now?

As the demand for productivity is ever-expanding, there’s no wonder that low-skilled workers are struggling to keep up, is automation the solution?

At some point in most of our lives, we may have worked in a low-end job, for paying rent, to kill boredom or just for necessary experience. The most popular kind of these jobs is fast-food or the food industry…

Scientists and researchers are teaming together to find a new route into serving the millions of us who opt for Mcdonalds or KFC for example every day. The most notable AI is ‘Flippy’, based in California. The robot is set to replace workers in 50 Cali Burger restaurants by the end of this year.

The robot is fitted with a 6-axis arm, and cameras/sensors to see its environment, and with a rate of over 100 burgers made per hour, it’s clear to see why workers are fearing for their job security.

In fact, a third of all UK workers are at risk within the next 20 years. The key sectors were retail, hospitality, transport and the more obvious manufacturing industry, which would account for the safety of 5 million jobs.

This means, for younger generations especially, that those hoping to prosper in areas such as engineering, and transport should look elsewhere, as robotic staff provide amazing cost savings. There are no running costs involved with managing robots, only the setup cost is required.

Low-earners are already long into their suffering, with wages being driven down to be worked cheaper than it would be for machines. Market researcher Technavio believes that cost savings of 21.85% will occur because of continuing to replace workers with robots.
