24-Hour Work Culture Becoming A Growing Problem – Research Suggests

Employees everywhere are falling into the trap of having to constantly check emails and workloads outside of working hours. Reports are suggesting there is a growing lack of sleep, productivity and mental health.
Are you someone who likes to go the extra mile for your company? If so, you’re probably harming yourself more than you think. See, when we don’t allow ourselves to unwind and relax in the hours after work, we force ourselves to feel too necessary to do our work, when it can be done just as easily the next morning on the job.
In theory, we are told to approach every day with the 24 hours rule. 8 hours sleeping, 8 hours socializing/relaxing, and 8 hours working. However, the modern approach is for extra work hours to be added is taking over our lives.
Employees tend to feel like they have false expectations set upon them by employers, that they are required to be available to reply to queries and emails 24 hours a day. With the advancing of modern technology, it has become much harder to forget about deadlines and customers as working emails are embedded into our home PCs or company laptops/phones.
Statistics by the most recent report by the financial times show that UK firms faced a rise of 24% in the number of days lost due to stress and anxiety, or mental health in general, the constant workload can fry our brains and force us to draw blanks when we step into work and lose the ability to prioritize.
Growing concerns over employee satisfaction and mental health has increased the likelihood of bosses replacing human workers with robots. Robots can easily undergo 24 hours a day working with little to no monitoring.
They don’t fall ill, they won’t chat back, and they don’t need rest or food breaks.
The piling pressure on our working population is making a robot revolution more imminent than ever before, and it’s only a matter of time before technology and workloads become too much for the average modern-day worker
