Napping at Work May Result in Higher Productivity for Business - Studies Show

We have all fallen victim to Sleeping in, Dozing off in meetings and not keeping up with daily targets due to a lack of Sleep - Perhaps Sleeping While at Work could be a good idea?

It has been recommended for years that we should aim to get 7 - 9 Hours of sleep per night, but with so many commitments surrounding us - it’s a task that can be very quickly throw out the door.

Daytime napping however, could be seen as an excellent alternative to keeping your energy levels high into the later hours of your working day. Even a 30 minute snooze can play a huge helping, such is the case with an Indonesian Reporter back in the 90’s, Bhim Suwastoyo became well known for “sleeping under his desk cupboard - within earshot of his office phone”.

In Japan it is highly praised to be sleeping while in meetings, as it is seen as a sign of someone who works hard in their job.

With so many health and productive benefits, it seems like an obvious decision for managers and owners to adopt this strategy for their staff, a few important tips however:

  • Make sure you are Allowed!
  • Don’t nap for more than 20 minutes - by this point you would risk falling into deep sleep
  • Stay away from any technology in the minutes before napping - If this is possible
  • Aim to take your nap somewhere between your post-lunch dip (2-4pm)

Hopefully results will show in your work, meaning more deadlines met, better focus in meetings and better overall awareness into the second half of your day!
