Where Does Your Provider Stack Up? UK's Best and Worst Broadband Providers Revealed
We all have to choose a broadband provider at some point, the internet and a landline phone is such a necessity in the modern home. However, some providers are just not as well-performing as others. Whether it be due to slower internet speeds or hiking charges for customers, let’s have a run down on how the top providers rank.
According to Ofcom, PlusNet holds the highest satisfaction rate for broadband at 83%, the worst rated was TalkTalk, with only 72% of customers saying they were happy with the service given.
PlusNet however holds the longest wait time for calls to be answered by their support team, boasting an average of just short of 8 minutes, compared with Talk Talk and EE, who are averaging hold times of under a minute.
Customers largely base their choice of provider on the monthly fees given, and prices can be driven down very low, prices per month come in as low as £13.99, however the average speed sits at just 11Mb, which is just enough to support a couple living together to independently use the internet (i.e. Both use the internet on separate devices simultaneously).
11Mb will enable you to do things such as Face time, Download books and apps, however it becomes really slow when it comes to trying to download games and movies such as if you were to Download a New Xbox game onto a console, the download time may exceed a day depending on the size of the install.
Last year, Virgin Media saw 7 out of 10 customers having issues at some point during the course of a year - the most common problems surrounded price increases, router problems and ongoing internet connectivity flaws. Talk Talk were no better in that year, with 64% of customers reporting the same kinds of issues to their incumbent.
So who’s the best provider to opt into? It depends on what you’re looking for - If it’s a cheap service, your best bet is Talk Talk or PlusNet, for the fastest broadband, you’re better off opting with Virgin Media. If you want the best rated service, you’d need to opt with Vodafone, with Uswitch rating them provider of the year so far for 2019
