How Brexit Outcome Could See the Return of Roaming Charges

With the Decision over Brexit STILL up in the air UK Mobile users wishing to go on holiday in the EU could be the next to worry. Charges are set to be introduced for any travelling within the EU, for calls, texts and mobile data - as the UK faces the possibility of a no-deal Brexit.

The plans to re-introduce the charges were confirmed by the European Commission in their documents detailing about the UK’s imminent exit from the EU.

Luckily for us though, leading providers such as O2 and Vodafone have said they do not have any plans to rush into reintroducing these charges onto their networks - the government also wants to avoid having the public caught out by the charges, with plans to set a £45 monthly billing period so that roaming charges do not skyrocket. Remember, it can cost as much as 50 pence per text depending on where you are in the EU.

The same will apply to when we get alerts - Users will be notified by text usually, that they have reached 80% of their data/roaming allowance, and the same again once their allowance is fully eaten up. Based on 2018 statistics, customers look set to save a combined £187 million over the course of the 12 months following Brexit finally being initiated.

Customers are advised to check any terms and conditions before heading out to other EU countries, in order to prepare for the possibility of any charges arriving.
