Switching Mobile Networks Set to Become Easier Than Ever
From Monday 1st July, Mobile users across the UK will be able to switch their network provider through only a single text message - Ofcom reports
Currently, you have to call up your current provider and request what is called a “PAC code” - this is what will carry your number over to whoever your next provider may be. It’s a way to avoid having to manually advise your contacts on your phone to edit your number.
Now Network Providers must be all ready to implement the new feature on or before 1st July, as the target to make switching providers hassle-free becomes nothing short of a reality.
First you text your current provider to request a code, they will pass on a PAC code if you’d like to keep your number, and a cancellation code if you wish to get a different number when you switch providers. Just like normal you will be billed any subsequent cancellation/termination fees.
The main benefits of this change are that you’ll avoid the network’s numerous attempts to encourage you to stay with them, and considering that more than half of mobile users change their network every 5 years, this solution will further add to the convenience of opting out if you are not be happy with the service given by your current provider.
